How to Avoid a Cytokine Storm - The True Killer 

 Anyone who's survived Ebola,or other serious hemorrhagic virus attacks will tell you just when they thought they were getting well, and their immune system was fighting off the virus, all of a sudden - BAM! - they're sicker than at any point before.  This is not due to the virus . . . but to their own immune system gone wild!  The major villain is known as Cytokine IL-6.

Vitamin C works to stop the damage from the Flu and Ebola (though vitamin C is NOT a cure)

First of all, as anyone who knows about scurvy can testify, vitamin C helps blood vessel walls build and keep their strength. But there is something far more serious at play with the Flu and Ebola that vitamin C successfully fights. Something even more sinister than blood vessel weakening happens when the Flu or Ebola virus depletes ALL of your Vitamin C.

What's the Danger?

A greatly accelerated release of the villain cytokine IL-6, know as a "Cytokine Storm" is the danger.  Cytokine IL-6 floods your body and overwhelms your immune system.  During the process, blood vessels are damaged because your immune system is confused to the point that immune cells start to attack your body.  This is referred to as an auto-immune response.  Ebola causes severe releases of cytokine IL-6 in blood vessel walls. Once released in huge amounts, IL-6 further irritates blood vessel walls to such an extent it can blow holes in them, and this combined with the already weakened condition from a lack of vitamin C will cause many vessels to rupture.  Therefore, a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disease.  

Many of the most awful diseases seem to be hemorrhagic  

The most notorious is the Spanish Flu of 1819, oxymoronically known as The Great Pandemic.  This disease presented symptoms of bleeding from the sinuses, lungs, skin, and eyes.  Add to that uncontrollable diarrhea and there was little to no chance of survival.  Sadly too, most of the losses occurred in strong young adults . . . who had strong young immune systems . . maybe too strong.  

Any medical professional will be able to quickly look up the fact that vitamin C impedes the release of cytokine IL-6. 
In short, vitamin C is like a magic Ebola bullet that not only curtails the release of blood vessel damaging cytokine IL-6, at the same time, it makes blood vessels return at a minimum to normal strength (and possibly beyond with very high dosings.) These two things working together make vitamin C the probable best first line of defense against Ebola that is possible.

But there is more to this story than that . . . 

Since IL-6 plays a huge role in damaging blood vessels, it is important to stop its release.  And there are some very simple foods that can be eaten that facilitate this. The first is green tea. Green tea can curtail cytokine IL-6 release by 21 percent (which pales compared to vitamin C, but would be a bonus). Of similar value are apples, cinnamon, most berries, choke cherries, pomegranite, olive oil, flax seed oil and fish oil. 

You should avoid caffeine and chocolate, because though both have the potential to help in some ways, they also have the potential to totally offset all benefit in everything else eaten (but this has not been fully studied out by anyone with regard to ebola as far as I know of).  It is just that doctors who know this a whole lot better than I do say the chemistry could possibly go very negatively, so to be safe, avoid caffeine and chocolate.

The foods mentioned above pretty much round out the list as far as I know, and further playing around with things like garlic 
(which is great for practically anything) and hot peppers, ginseng and other blood thinning foods will probably be detrimental with a hemorrhagic fever.

VITAMIN C THERAPEUTIC DOSAGE
Clinical reports by independent physicians have been consistent for decades for mega-dosing with vitamin C for various illnesses.   However, the doctors also stipulated most emphatically that the dose and the way you take it must be right – or it will not work. 
LOOSE STOOLS ARE THE KEY. If you are not getting diarrhea it means you need MORE VITAMIN C. If you are getting diarrhea, CUT BACK because you are wasting it.  

At the first hint of an infection – feeling unwell, itchy throat, fatigue, and so on, begin therapeutic dosages of Vitamin C.  The longer a person waits after the initial symptoms, the less effective the treatment will be.  Also, if the illness is allowed to develop the sick person may become unable to take anything orally.  
Intravenous or rectal administration are the remaining options.  

                                                            Take 1,000 mg (1 gram) of Vitamin C every hour until well
                                                                   Back off a couple of doses when diarrhea occurs
                                                       DO NOT CONSUME SUGAR or STARCHY CARBOHYDRATES

TYPES OF VITAMIN C
Low cost ascorbic acid is the preferred form of Vitamin C.  Ascorbic acid is a weak acid, much weaker than the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. This acidity helps fight the virus, but will lead to loose stools when taken at therapeutic levels. It's wise to rinse mouth after dosing to avoid tooth enamel damage. 
Powdered or capsule forms are preferred, due to fillers in tablets.
Mineral or salt forms and buffered vitamin C, like Ester C are around 50% less effective than ascorbic acid.

METHODS OF ADMINISTRATION
Oral intake of ascorbic acid is the usual method and will work well if used as directed.
For children, enemas may be the most practical method.

If IV sodium ascorbate is available, it should be given slowly and as continuously as possible.
